Off the Beaten Path, But in the Right Direction

New research is beginning to suggest that some elderly people do better in small-scale care accommodations than in a large-scale nursing home. They need less help, are more socially involved and enjoy their surroundings more in a smaller environment. Their professional caregivers also prefer to work in smaller care environments.

Garden Place is a locally-owned assisted living facility located in a quiet neighborhood in Columbia. Despite its restful location, this facility is operating on the cutting edge of that new research--it's set up to offer elderly residents what the studies are revealing they need.

Residents can safely walk outside on Garden Place's grounds to enjoy the fresh air. There are common areas for socializing--like the bright, comfortable sun room--or those who prefer can always enjoy the quiet of their own private living areas. Residents are invited to bring some of their own furnishings and to decorate their room or suite however they like, to make them feel at home.
